“Through ThesePortals Pass The Most Beautiful Girls In The World” Hey, it’s not me. That’s what was written around the neon portrait or Beryl Wallace that marked the front of the Earl Carroll Theatre.
The Earl Carroll was directly across the street from the Palladium. In the 60s, it became first the Hullabaloo (home of the TV music program of the same name); the psychedelic club, the Kaleidoscope; the Aquarius Theater, where the LA production of Hair took place and the Doors played repeatedly; and today, it’s still there, in relict form, as the absolutely dumpy Nickoledeon studio, where that cable network films its live crap.
