Olsen & Johnson’s “New Laugh Riot” Hellzapoppin’ opened at the Winter Garden Theater in November 1938, was one of the most popular Broadway plays of the 1930s, closing in 1941 when the movie version came out. Watch it here.
The Hotel Woodstock opened circa 1903 at 127 West 43rd Street and has had a history that parallels the ups and downs of its neighborhood. In the mid-1970s it was taken over by ProjectFIND, which has renovated the property and still owns it as a residential hotel for people 55 & over with limited income. More here.
